Recent projects on sustainability

In 2023 I’m working on projects for the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency (PBL) and Friends of the Earth.  I’m also teaching in the fields of  ‘Industrial Ecology’, innovation and climate change at Eindhoven University of Technology.

A summary of my other recent activities is given below.

Policy preparation – Together with Harmelink Consulting I prepared the policy process of establishing a ‘renewable heat transition vision’ for the municipality of Tilburg (2019/2020).

Agenda setting – Friends of the Earth Netherlands is convinced that only a just energy transition will gain the speed and scale needed to halt climate change. I supported FoE in mainstreaming their just transition agenda (2017-2019).

Policy evaluation – Together with Harmelink Consulting I evaluated the climate policies of the municipality of Zandvoort (2016).

Policy evaluation – Which conditions on the Dutch home market support a successful export position of Dutch cleantech innovations? An assignment for the Netherland Environmental Assessment Agency (PBL). Results are summarized in a report and five essays (2016).

Policy evaluation – A new Dutch policy instrument for energy savings in firms, the energy performance assessment (EPA), was tested in nine pilot studies. We evaluated the pilots in an assignment for the Dutch ministry of Infrastructure and Environment (2015).

Policy evaluation – The energy transition project in the province of Utrecht: What is the state of affairs? Which energy agenda will provide a 10% growth of renewable energy by 2020? A contract with the Nature and Environment Federation Utrecht (NMU) (2014).

Research – PBL developed a new method to assess global impacts of ongoing soil degradation. I support PBL in writing this together in a policy brief (2016).

Research – Which assessment method applies to your sustainability question? An assignment for the Dutch National Institute of Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) (see website) (2014).

Research – How to stimulate high-value (re-)use of pure and non-toxic materials in the economy? Senior advisor sustainability to the National Institute of Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) (2015).

Teaching – I taugth and coordinated the BSc course Economics of Innovation: an introduction at the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) (2020).

Teaching – I developed and taugth the MSc course Energy Modelling at the Radboud University Nijmegen (2019).

Teaching – I developed and taught two BSc-courses ‘quantifying sustainability in the agro-food chain’. An assignment for the HAS Den Bosch University of Applied Sciences (2014).
